Gujarat has a mostly hot, semi-arid climate, with more humidity along its long coastline and drier conditions in Saurashtra and Kutch.
The monsoon usually arrives in south Gujarat in mid-June and reaches the north and Saurashtra by late June or early July. Rainfall is heaviest in the south (Surat, Valsad) and lowest in Kutch.
Summers are very hot, with highs above 40 °C in Ahmedabad in May. Winters are dry and pleasant. The coast is exposed to Arabian Sea cyclones in May–June and October–November.
