Karnataka spans a very wet coast, the Western Ghats and the Deccan plateau. Plateau cities such as Bengaluru and Mysuru have mild, pleasant weather for most of the year, while the coast is hot, humid and very rainy.
The monsoon reaches the coast around the first week of June. Coastal Karnataka and the Ghats get some of the heaviest rain in India; the plateau gets moderate rain, with more in September–October from the retreating monsoon.
Summers on the plateau are warm rather than extreme, usually in the mid-30s °C. Winters are mild, with cool mornings.
