Tamil Nadu is warm all year, and it is one of the few parts of India that gets most of its rain from the northeast monsoon in October to December rather than the summer monsoon.
The southwest monsoon (June–September) brings only light rain to most of the state, except the western hills. The northeast monsoon from October to December is the main rainy season, and Bay of Bengal cyclones can bring very heavy rain to the coast.
Summers (April–June) are hot and humid on the coast and hot and dry inland. Hill stations such as Ooty and Kodaikanal stay cool all year and have chilly winter nights.
