Jammu and Kashmir has two very different climates: Jammu, in the foothills, is hot in summer, while the Kashmir Valley around Srinagar has four distinct seasons with cold, snowy winters.
The monsoon brings heavy rain to Jammu in July and August. The Kashmir Valley gets much of its rain and snow from western disturbances in winter and spring.
Jammu's summer highs can reach 40 °C. In Srinagar, winter nights are well below freezing, and the Jammu–Srinagar highway can close after heavy snow.
