Uttarakhand rises from the plains at Haridwar to high Himalayan peaks, so weather depends strongly on altitude: warm in the valleys, cool in hill towns, and snowy in the high mountains.
The monsoon usually arrives in late June and lasts until mid-September. It brings very heavy rain, and landslides frequently block roads, including the Char Dham routes.
Summers are warm in Dehradun and Haridwar and pleasant in Mussoorie and Nainital. Winters are cold in the hills, with snow some years, and foggy in the plains.
