A forecast isn't a guess — it's the output of a physics simulation. Meteorological agencies feed current measurements — temperature, pressure, humidity, and wind readings from satellites, weather balloons, ships, and ground stations — into numerical weather prediction (NWP) models. These models solve equations describing how fluids (air) move and exchange heat, then step the simulation forward in time, hour by hour, to project how the atmosphere will evolve.
Because the atmosphere is chaotic — small measurement errors amplify over time — accuracy naturally drops the further out you look. A same-day or next-day forecast is usually reliable; a five-day forecast captures the general trend but is more likely to shift as new data comes in, which is why this tool (and any weather service) refreshes its numbers regularly.
